The Nearshore OWC wave energy system developed by Wavegen is the world’s
first commercially oriented approach capturing power from ocean waves.
It is a near-shore wave-powered station that uses the oscillating
water column (OWC) to generate power.
Nearshore
OWC
represents a major advance in renewable energy technology and in
generating electricity in a way that is friendly to the environment
and does not cause pollution.

By harnessing energy from waves,
Nearshore OWC devices can be used to keep
the sea to the landward side of the Nearshore OWC units relatively calm. The
Nearshore OWC units can therefore contribute towards coastal defences,
harbour developments and creating recreational areas for water sports.
Nearshore OWC units also act like artificial reefs, improving environments
for fishing.
