LIMPET news
22/07/05
In many ways
Friday 22nd July was an unremarkable day for Wavegen.
The analysis of
performance data from the LIMPET plant continued as normal whilst
wave tank testing of an active OWC breakwater continues to show
benefits in terms of sea calming as well as excellent energy
capture.
In one sense
however it was a quite remarkable day notching up another first
for Wavegen and probably for the wave energy industry as a whole.
For the nearly
12 months Wavegen has been running a series of trials on its
modular small turbine installed on the north outlet of the LIMPET
shoreline demonstration plant.

On the Friday
22nd the turbine was mechanically installed by a local
engineers without any Wavegen personnel on site.
The power
cables and instrumentation were plugged in to the waiting junction
boxes and the plant started via the modem link to Wavegen’s
Inverness office.
It is
indicative of the state of the system development that the
equipment can be installed and demounted so easily and bodes well
for the future application of the modular turbine in breakwater
application.
