Expert Flies to Florida to Give Paper on Wave Energy
29/06/04
A locally based wave energy specialist has travelled to Florida
to address an audience of government officials and technical firms
from across the globe.
Graeme
Mackie, Engineering Director of Inverness company Wavegen, was
asked by the EnergyOcean conference to share Wavegen’s experience
of marine renewable energy with experts from around the world.
As the creator of the world’s first grid connected wave energy
generator, Wavegen is considered to be a leading voice in the
industry.
Mr
Mackie explained: “I am honoured to have been given the opportunity
to speak at the first EnergyOcean conference.
I believe that there is much the industry can learn from Wavegen’s
research and development and it is good to see that the US is
beginning to place importance on sustainable and renewable energy
sources on and around its own shores.
Wavegen
operates in a global market and events like these can prove invaluable
in building long term relationships with developers.”

Mr
Mackie’s paper will describe the technology behind the LIMPET
plant on Islay and outline its performance since connection to
the grid three years ago
He will also unveil details of the next generation of wave energy
technology currently being developed by Wavegen.
The
staging of the first EnergyOcean Conference in the US is a signal
that the development of offshore sustainable energy is becoming
increasingly important to government officials in the US and beyond.
The aim of the conference is to put US technologists and scientists
in contact international experts and developers.
